The Terribly Scary Storm

The Story Behind The Terribly Scary Storm

“Boris learns a valuable lesson about fear when he faces a scary thunderstorm.” – Harrison Woodard

BackgroundThe Terribly Scary Storm is the 9th story in the Boris Kitty series. The real Boris was one of bravest cats I have ever known. He could climb any tree and stare down dogs three times his size. I once watched him chase two cats over the fence and out of the yard. The cat was fearless.

The only thing that gave Boris pause, was a thunderstorm. As the thunder got close, and the rain started, he would make his way into the utility room to wait out the storm in safety. On rare occasions, I could keep him on my lap for a few moments, but then a large thunder clap would end that quickly.

This gave birth to this Boris Kitty story about overcoming fear.

Summary – Boris is outside enjoying a beautiful Spring day and a nap in the warm sunshine. He awakes to a sudden thunderstorm. He runs inside to hide as usual. As he is waiting out the storm, God helps him understand how Love is greater than fear.

At the end of the story, he confidently watches the storm through the window. There is no need to be afraid. Nothing can separate him from God’s love.

Did You Know– Boris lived in Dallas, Texas where heavy thunderstorms are quite common. One of the common sayings in these parts is if you don’t like the weather, wait 15 minutes. Boris got lots of practice with extreme weather during his life.

The story was illustrated by Donna Rosin.

Biblical Theme – I go to God’s Word for inspiration for each story. Here is the verse I selected for The Terribly Scary Storm.

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The man who fears is not made perfect in love. — 1 John 4:16 & 18 NIV

Real Bible faith is believing that God loves you. If you know that you know that the Creator of the universe is watching over you, there is absolutely no reason to ever be afraid. God is love. And Love NEVER fails. Spend more time with God and experience his love daily. That will build your trust in God, and will prevent the spirit of fear from gaining a foothold in your mind. Fear undermines your faith. But faith is strongest and most effective when empowered by love (Galatians 5:6).

Hope You Enjoy The Story!!
